Abdul

When he first spoke, he drilled into Khan to gage her reaction. He had been relishing this moment for years.

Those pretty eyes of recognition and understanding, lighting up in an instant.

He had high hopes for Khan. Besides being a Muslim, she was the perfect figure head for his remake of America. She was molded into the political figure she had become and other than a few minor problems, she had been the perfect servant. But her role was not supposed to end with Abdul’s ascension to complete power.

His intension was to be the spiritual leader of his people, which would eventually include all Americans when Sharia was ushered in. He was not supposed to be the face of the country’s politics. That was supposed to be her place.

But to now see her acting independently and in complete defiance to his demands. Even offering a crude response to them… He felt certain she would die as his example.

When he announced his true name so that all of the men and three women in this room would not be confused, Khan did what he expected. She backed away from the table, uttering, “Nooooo.” She tripped on the chair and fell into it.

Meer held a hand up. “Is this necessary?”

Abdul pointed his rifle at him.

He really wanted to kill Meer, for many reasons. Most of all, for Meer believing that he could have Abdul arrested and then hung at the very tribunals that Abdul had set up…

But Meer also had a purpose. He was the perfect military politician, worming his way to a higher station than his actions or abilities should deserve. Yes, he was smart, but more than that, he had no morality, which made him perfect for being in place to make sure the government—especially the military—followed Abdul and did what Abdul desired.

So, Abdul resisted the desire to make Meer pay, instead continuing with what he came here to say.

“Regardless of whatever fantasies you tell yourselves…” Abdul directed this at Meer, but it was also intended for everyone in the room. “There is only one person in charge right now and that person is me.”

Meer flashed confusion and Abdul knew why: Meer didn’t understand how Abdul knew that Meer had been conspiring against him. Abdul had never let on that he had cameras everywhere.

Then the smooth lines of recognition spread across the Secretary’s smug face. He sat down, and Abdul felt pretty sure, he would not say another word.

“Several of you have been conspiring against me, following your own agendas. But there is only one agenda and that is mine.

“What you may not know is that I see everything that goes on in this complex. So, I have heard each of you say things here and in private, which are not following my will.”

Abdul looked at everyone. Each person responded by tilting their eyes downward when he glared at them. He knew Meer had probably given a similar speech, but he needed to know that each and everyone understood what he was saying.
